Date: Monday, August 11, 2014 – 6:00pm
On the 11th of August 2014 at approximately 6pm, police received numerous calls from witnesses advising that a male was driving his dirt bike in an erratic manner in the area of Miller Drive. It is alleged the driver of the bike narrowly missed an elderly male walking across the road while operating the bike at a high rate of speed. A witness observed the male driver attend into the forested area to ride his bike after driving erratically.
The witness attended to the area of where the bike was last seen and parked their vehicle in regards to waiting for the bike operator to return. Moments later the bike exited the dirt trail at a high rate of speed. The speed was fast enough that the bike was unable to come to a stop and collided into the side door of the witnesses vehicle causing some reasonable damage to both the bike and the vehicle. Fortunately the driver of the bike and the witness were not injured as a result of the accident. The driver was immediately apprehended by the witness and held until police arrived.
During the investigation it was revealed that the driver of the bike had been charged with dangerous driving one month prior. Police subsequently arrested the male and held him for a bail hearing.
A 17 year old Barrie male now faces charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
