(TOWN OF SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On August 9th, 2014 at 7:10p.m., a member of the Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed an E-Bike being operated in an erratic manner on Southampton Parkway, Town of South Bruce Peninsula.
Police stopped the E-Bike and spoke to the driver. The officer formed the belief that the driver’s ability to operate the motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and made an arrest.
Alvin BESITO, 36, of Saugeen First Nation, has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor vehicle and Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
The public is reminded that an E-Bike in motion under the power of the electric motor is considered a Motor Vehicle under the Criminal Code of Canada. As such, operating an E-Bike while impaired by alcohol or drug is subject to Criminal Code penalties.
