Serious Head-on Collision South Of Mitchell – 7 Sent To Hospital

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Friday August 15, 2014, at 5:20 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a serious head-on collision on Hwy 23 north of Line 24, south of Mitchell.

Investigation revealed that a Chevy Equinox travelling south bound on Hwy 23 collided with a Dodge Caravan travelling north bound. The vehicles collided in the north bound lane. The impact resulted in the three occupants of the Equinox as well as the four occupants of the Caravan having to be transported to hospital.

One of the Equinox passengers, an adult male was transported from the scene by air-ambulance to a London hospital with major injuries. The adult male driver of the Equinox and another adult male passenger were transported to a local hospital by land ambulance with minor injuries.

The four occupants of the Caravan, all residents of London, were transported to local hospitals by land ambulance. The adult male driver and the adult female passenger sustained minor injuries. An infant passenger was transported to local hospital, but has since been transported by air ambulance to a London hospital. A toddler passenger has also been transported from the local hospital by land ambulance to a London hospital.

Hwy 23 between Line 26 and Perth Line 20 is expected to remains closed to traffic until approximately 11 p.m. This closure will allow the highway to be cleared of debris, and it will allow the Perth County OPP and the OPP Western Region Traffic Collision Investigation Unit to safely investigate the collision.
