Gary BURCHILL – Run Stop Sign, No Licence, Drinking and Driving, etc

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – A 65 year old male driver is facing several charges following a traffic stop that took place on August 30, 2014.

Just after 2:30 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted the driver of a Chevrolet Impala fail to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Kieffer Line and C Line Road. Officers followed the vehicle a short distance and completed a traffic stop on C Line Road. Upon speaking with the driver officers detected the driver had been drinking alcohol. A subsequent demand was given to the driver for him to provide a roadside sample of his breath. The driver was given numerous opportunities to provide a sample however he failed to provide a suitable sample of his breath for analysis purposes.

After failing to provide a sample the driver was arrested and searched incident to arrest. Upon searching the driver a small quantity of marihuana was found on the driver.

As a result, 65 year old Gary BURCHILL, from North Huron has been charged with Fail to Provide Sample, Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Marihuana, Fail to Signal for Turn and Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham on September 18, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
