Waterloo Region, ON – At approximately 9am on Friday September 5, 2014, emergency services responded to the University of Waterloo, 200 University Avenue, Waterloo after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been struck by lightning.
The victim, a first year female student, was found to be without vital signs and transported to a local hospital. She was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Waterloo Regional Police are in the process of notifying her next of kin in the Markham area. She was enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering.
Police in partnership with the Coroner’s office are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Ministry of Labour has also been contacted.
