25 Aug 2014,

2:40 pm police responded to a report of a bicycle theft from a residence on South Rankin St.

26 Aug 2014,

2:30 pm it was reported to police that sometime overnight person(s) unknown damaged some fruit and vegetables in the community garden at GC Huston public school.

27 Aug 2014,

12:18 am police conducted RIDE in Port Elgin. No infractions were noted.

9:57 am, it was reported to police that sometime overnight someone threw eggs at a vehicle on Parkwood Drive, no suspects, no damage.

2:29 pm police responded to a three vehicle motor vehicle collision at Goderich and Ivings Drive. Two vehicles were stopped at a red light at Ivings Dr heading north on Goderich St. one behind the other. A third vehicle also north bound struck the rear of the second vehicle pushing it into the third vehicle. Minor injuries were reported but no-one required an ambulance.

28 Aug 2014,

12:40 pm police responded to a motor vehicle / bicycle collision on Albert St Southampton. A vehicle had parallel parked north bound in front of the Southampton Market. The driver opened the driver door into the path of a north bound cyclist. The cyclist struck his head on the car door and suffered a serious cut to his head and had to be taken to the hospital. The driver of the vehicle was charged with opening a vehicle door improperly.

This incident is an example of being “doored”. A term used when a cyclist strikes the car door when it is being opened. It is the responsibility of the vehicle operator to ensure the way is safe behind the vehicle before opening the car door. Another vehicle or a cyclist could be traveling on the roadway and strike your door.

8:09 pm police responded to a mischief complaint on Highland St where sometime overnight someone broke the driver’s side windshield wiper arm of the vehicle.

10:58 pm police conducted RIDE on Railway St in Southampton, no infractions.

29 Aug 2014,

1:34 am police responded to a report from a citizen of a motor vehicle collision in the area of Mill and Spring St Port Elgin. A description of the vehicle was given to police and the vehicle was located. The driver appeared to be impaired and was arrested and taken to the station for a breathalyzer. The driver provided readings of 190 mgms and 180 mgms; the legal limit is 80 mgms. Tracy Primeau 46 years of Kincardine was charged with Impaired Driving, and Fail to Report an accident and her vehicle was towed.

1:29 pm police received a complaint of a fraud. This fraud has been around for some time. A person posted a wanted ad on Kijiji looking for a place to rent. She was contacted by a potential person who had a place to rent and gave the address. The person looking to rent the property was cautious and called the real estate company to find that the place was not for rent and in fact was still under construction. No money had changed hands.

6:49 pm police were contacted in regards to the theft of a bicycle from the side of a residence in Port Elgin.

30 Aug 2014,

10:31 it was reported to police that sometime overnight someone had stolen two wrought iron decorations from a fence in Port Elgin, no suspects.

7:38 pm police received a report of a bicycle stolen from a garage in Southampton, no suspects. The bicycle had later been found and police had the bike in the pen at the police office. The bicycle was returned to the owner.

31 Aug 2014,

12:05 pm police responded to a gas drive off at the Independent Gas Bar. A female party pumped $41 in gas and drove off. No suspects. Police are investigating.

7:05 pm police received a report from the OPP of a possible impaired driver and a vehicle description. The vehicle and driver were located at the New Orleans Pizza in Southampton. The driver was arrested for Impaired Driving and taken to the police office for a breath test where he provided readings of 158 mgms and 146 mgms, the legal limit is 80 mgms. Michael Patterson 53 years of Saugeen Shores was charged with impaired driving; Drive over 80 mgms, his licence suspended for 90 days under the ADLS system, and his vehicle was towed.

11:46 pm police conducted RIDE in Southampton, no infractions.

01 Sep 2014,

12:44 am police stopped a vehicle in Southampton. The driver was found to have been drinking and failed a roadside breath test. The driver was brought to the police station for a breath test and provided readings of 90 mgms and 90 mgms; the legal limit is 80 mgms. Ken Besito 42 years of Saugeen First Nation was charged with Drive Over 80 mgms and as a novice driver, drive with blood alcohol over 0. He was also issued with a 90 day ADLS drivers licence suspension.
