On Wednesday, September 10th, members of the Barrie Police HEAT Unit arrested a 21 year old male for the robbery at the convenience store located at the intersection of Anne St. and Dunlop St. West, which occurred on September 9th. The male is of no fixed address at present and well known to police. The Criminal Investigations Division investigated another incident that occurred just prior to the robbery, where a 48 year old male victim was assaulted in his apartment on Dunlop St. West. The victim’s injuries were so extensive that he was transported to St. Michael’s Hospital where he remains in the Intensive Care Trauma Unit. The same 21 year old arrested male has been further charged criminally with numerous offences including, robbery, wearing disguise with intent, utter threats, aggravated assault and breach of probation x 3.
Further investigation revealed that there was a second male involved in the aggravated assault on Dunlop St. West on September 9th. As the investigation developed, Barrie Police had 2 more male victims come forward reporting assaults at the hands of this second male. Those assaults took place at the end of August on Dunlop St. West. One 48 year old male victim was kicked in the face with such violent force that he suffered a cracked orbital bone and broken nose and required surgery as a result of the attack.
Another fifty six year old victim was punched in the face by the same male at the end of August on Dunlop St. West. He will require some dental work due to the assault. These victims were reluctant to report the assaults to police, as they feared for their safety, because this second male is an aggressive bully.
Today, members of the Barrie Police HEAT Unit arrested a 46 year old male resident of Barrie, who is also well known to police. He faces numerous criminal charges including, break and enter, assault, aggravated assault x 2, robbery, unlawfully in a dwelling and breach of probation x 3.
Both of these males will remain in police custody pending bail hearing on September 11th, 2014.
