(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer narrowly escaped injury after a driver slammed his vehicle into a road sign barrier yesterday morning. The incident unfolded a few minutes before 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of Huron Road and Benmiller Line. A temporary wooden road sign barricade had been set up on Huron Road as police were actively directing traffic away from a nearby collision scene.
The involved officer was standing outside of his police vehicle directing traffic when he observed the driver of a Buick Lucerne travelling westbound on Huron Road directly into the path of the barricade. The officer was able to move out of the way moments before the vehicle collided with the barrier. The road sign barrier was completely destroyed and the Buick Lucerne sustained moderate damage.
The male driver and his passenger were uninjured. Police have charged 91 year old Campbell WEY from Huron East with Careless Driving.
