On Monday, September 22, 2014, it was reported to police that a vehicle had been broken into where several items had been taken, including an oak box containing baby memorabilia.
On Thursday, September 25, 2014, two London residents were arrested for an unrelated matter. Found in their vehicle was property that was identified as some of the items stolen from the incident reported on September 22. An investigation is continuing in relation to other property found in the suspects’ vehicle upon their arrest. The oak box and the contents were not located at this time.
Also seized was 20.7g of marijuana.
On Friday, September 26, 2014, the Break and Enter Unit executed a search warrant at a Wilkins Street address where the oak box was located, as well as a sleeper, a baby blanket, a foot print book, and a knitted infant hat. The other items from the box have not yet been found, namely:
– A lock of the baby boy’s hair (dark in colour)
– Full moldings of the baby’s feet (clay)
– CD with baby pictures
– A card with the baby’s name and date of his death on it
As a result of the investigation, Mark Barton (32) and Amanda Fordham (34) are both charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, contrary to section 354(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada; and possession of a Schedule II substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The investigation into the theft of these items continues.
Mark Barton is currently charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences, unrelated to this investigation:
– possession of property obtained by crime, under $5000, contrary to section 354(1);
– two counts of fail to comply with undertaking, contrary to section 145(5.1);
– two counts of theft under $5000, contrary to section 334(b); and
– three counts of mischief, contrary to section 430(4).
Mark Barton remains in custody, with a bail hearing scheduled for today.
Amanda Fordham has been released from custody with a court date of October 10, 2014.
