Driver Hits Deer While Rushing Pregnant Girlfriend To Hospital

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Thursday October 13, 2011 at 6:20 a.m. Perth County officers were called to a suspicious truck which was left abandoned on the shoulder of Line 32 south of Sebringville. The vehicle a Dodge Dakota had extensive front end damage, and had its hazards light activated.

Police investigation revealed that the truck belonged to a Goderich resident who was rushing his pregnant girlfriend to the Stratford General Hospital when they struck a deer south of Mitchell. The impact with the deer caused damage to the front of the truck but due to the imminent birth they were unable to stop. When they were south of Sebringville the vehicle overheated and they were forced to pull over. The driver flagged down a passing motorist who transported them to the Stratford General Hospital. At 8:10 a.m. a healthy 7 pound baby boy was delivered to the proud parents.

The Perth County OPP wish to remind the public that the Fall is coming and this means deer on our roadways. Be extra vigilant in the early morning and early evening when the deer are most active. Watch for deer signs along the shoulder of the road. These signs indicated areas where deer are expected to appear on the road. If you see one deer, there are usually more. Finally obey the posted speed limit and reduce your speed in low light conditions; give yourself time to react.
