On Sunday, November 2, 2014, a 65 year old male was driving his white minivan west on Fountain Street S, Cambridge, between Blair Road and Limerick Drive. The male lost control of the vehicle, exited the roadway to the right and collided with a hydro pole, snapping the pole in half. Shortly after the impact, a fire ignited in the engine compartment, which quickly engulfed the vehicle. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle before the fire. He suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to Cambridge Memorial Hospital by ambulance. The Cambridge Fire Department extinguished the fire. Hydro workers attended the scene to replace the pole, resulting in road closures in the area for several hours. A 65 year old mlae has been charged with Careless Driving. Alcohol was not a factor.
