Another non-accountable government is poised to topple, President Bashar al-Assad not expected to survive.
Rhetoric is at an all time high regarding Syria. International
media is still banned from the country, and few reports are leaking
out on the Internet, and via expatriates. Arab League
observers deliver conflicting reports of snipers and deaths.
Syria’s President has offered amnesty to army deserters who turn
themselves in. This has been attempted by several leaders that
were on the verge of being deposed.
Once the citizens can get their stories out via Facebook, Twitter,
and YouTube, President Bashar al-Assad will be removed from power,
and the country will be able to move forward. The President is
not likely to survive this ordeal, as he will likely be captured by
those he has oppressed. If he is captured alive, he will
likely face the ICC, or a Syrian court that will issue a death
penalty.
According to the UN, over 5,000 Civilians have been killed since the
uprisings began, and the vast majority were unarmed. Tens of
thousands of people have been detained and routinely tortured over
the past year, human rights groups say.
For months the Syrian people have been pleading for international
support in their fight for freedom. Requests for a no-fly zone
has fallen on deaf ears. Aid has been stopped at the border,
and prevented to getting to those that need it. Iran has been
accused of supplying weapons to Syria.
