Emergency Scam Alert

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is sending another reminder about the emergency scam that is also known as the grandparent scam. On July 31, 2012 at 3:40 pm, a con artist posing as a grand child phoned a resident of Arran-Elderslie Township and $1,750 was sent via Western Union. The emergency or grandparent scam is conducted by phone and the caller always needs money urgently for a car accident in Montreal or to get out of a Montreal jail. The callers are very convincing which is why this scam is still generating money. Families, care givers and support workers are asked to help someone they care about from becoming the next victim of this con.
