Crash Closes HWY 8 For A Short Period

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Saturday August 11, 2012, at 10:18 a.m., Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to a crash on Hwy. 8 west of Shakespeare (between Road 108 and Shakespeare).

Investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Lumina was travelling west bound on Hwy. 8 when the driver proceeded to pass four west bound vehicles. As the Lumina drove onto the east bound lane an eastbound vehicle appeared and the pass could not be completed. The driver of the Lumina veered onto the south shoulder where she lost control and rolled the vehicle a number of times. The lone driver of the Lumina was removed from the wreckage by members of the Perth East Shakespeare Fire Dept. She sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Stratford General Hospital.

The 33 year old female driver from Woodstock has been charged with “careless driving”. The highway was closed and traffic was diverted around the crash scene until the debris and emergency vehicles could be removed from the roadway.
