(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) On Wednesday February 27, 2013 Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break and enter that occurred at a construction site located on the 8th Line of Minto Township. Suspect(s) removed a laser instrument valued at over $1000 and a number of other power tools.
On Thursday March 21, 2013 an employee of the construction company contacted the Wellington County OPP to advise the he had seen the stolen items for sale on a popular on-line classifieds website. On Friday March 22, 2013 officers from Wellington County OPP arrested the suspects.
Jason Lambert aged 31 of North Perth has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was held in custody pending the outcome of a bail hearing in Guelph Court. Davis Minielly aged 21 of North Perth has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. She is scheduled to appear in Guelph court on April 24, 2013 to answer to the charge.
Wellington County OPP reminds the public to be cautious. If you are victimized it is possible that you may see your property listed on a classified website, and offer the following tips:
Once your property has been stolen check the on-line classifies ads early and often. Sometimes thieves list items quickly, sometimes they wait.
DO NOT try and buy back your property yourself. If you think you have found your stolen property, call the police.
Ask for more photos of the item that will assist you in determining if the item is yours and you can forward them on to police.
If you have the serial number written down or your name engraved on the item that will assist in identifying the item as yours.
Write down the time and date that items were posted on the site.
Write down where the property is being sold and the price it is listed for.
