43 Year Old Charge For Making Prank 911 Call

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA) The Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 911 call to investigate what was believed to be a serious assault in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

Members of the OPP attended a South Bruce Peninsula residence. The caller met Police at the door along with his alleged assailants. The man told Police that it was all a joke, and that he was not injured. The Police investigation concluded that no assault had occurred and that the caller had fabricated the story, leading to the needless Police investigation.

The 43-year-old South Bruce Peninsula man was charged with Public Mischief and will appear in Owen Sound Court on April 25, 2013 to answer to the charges.

The OPP remind citizens that to mislead Police is a serious offence. A 911 call often leads to swift responses by emergency personnel. This may put the lives of first responders and the public needlessly at risk for a deceitful call. The 911 system is not for jokes, it is for serious calls for service, and charges will result should investigation prove a call was fictitious.

The Bruce Peninsula OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org. You may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
