Garrett Alexander – Using Cell Phone Without Surety, Distracted Driving

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A driver talking on his cell phone found himself facing more than a traffic ticket last week during the province wide distracted driving campaign. On Friday, April 19, 2013 at approximately 4:30 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a male driver using his cell phone while he was driving eastbound on Thames Road East in Exeter. The investigating officer stopped the Chevrolet Cobalt and spoke with the driver about the offence of using a cell phone device while driving. Upon speaking with the driver officers determined he was earlier released on a condition of the court that prevented him from possessing a cell phone unless in the direct company of his surety. Since his surety was not with him he was arrested for the offence of Failing to Comply with a Condition of his Recognizance. He was also served with a ticket for the offence of Drive Motor Vehicle on a Highway while Using a Hand Held Wireless Communication Device.

Garrett ALEXANDER, 20, from Bluewater has been released from custody and has a scheduled court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on April 29, 2013.
