(MAPLETON TWP, ON) On Monday June 3, 2013 at approximately 9:22am officers from the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a float plane that had flipped over on Conestogo Lake while landing, in Mapleton Township. Firefighters from Mapleton Fire Department and Paramedics from Guelph-Wellington EMS also responded to the scene.
Upon police arrival, both occupants were observed sitting on top of the plane wearing their personal floatation devices (PFD). Mapleton Fire fighters used their vessel and picked up the occupants who were uninjured.
The Transportation Safety Bureau and RCC Trenton were notified and will not be attending.
The Grand River Conservation Authority is currently removing the plane from the water.
The investigation is continuing and information will be released as it becomes available.
