(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A driver that failed to stop at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint is facing charges of Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. On August 9, 2013 at 10:49 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver. A few minutes later, the suspect vehicle approached a R.I.D.E checkpoint located on Huron Street and Morrison Line. As officers were speaking with another motorist the suspect vehicle continued on without stopping. The suspect vehicle, a black Chevrolet S-10 pickup was stopped a short distance away on McTaggart Line.
Upon speaking with the male driver officers noted he had been drinking alcohol. Further investigation revealed the driver was displaying several signs that he was impaired by alcohol. As a result the driver was arrested for Impaired Driving. He was later transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both tests were above the legal limit.
Reme BECKETT, 39, from Seaforth has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has a court date scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter on September 26, 2013. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
