(KINCARDINE, ON.) – On June 17, 2010 at 9:01 am, the South Bruce OPP received a report of an attempted fraud by phone from an elderly male in Kinloss Township. The caller called him “Grandpa†when he answered the phone and asked for a $2,000 money transfer because he’d been involved in a car crash with a rented vehicle in Montreal. Fortunately, he checked with his family and discovered this was a false claim, before sending any money.
The South Bruce OPP are warning the public to use caution before sending any money in response to a phone call, letter or internet request. “The fraudulent attempts to separate you from your hard earned money are becoming very creative. Be sure the request is genuine before you respond. It’s very difficult to recover your money or hold the fraudster accountable….think buyer beware.â€
