The Guelph Police Traffic Services Unit, responding to safety concerns from construction workers, conducted a speed enforcement initiative on Victoria Road South (south of Stone Road E) on August 12, 2013 (between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.).
This area is currently undergoing roadway upgrades and a single lane is open for southbound traffic only.
The City of Guelph passed a bylaw on July 29, 2013 reducing the speed limit to 40 km/h during the course of this project and regulatory MAXIMUM 40 KM/H signs are clearly posted.
During the 2 ½ hour period, 21 Provincial Offence Tickets for speeding were issued to motorists. Construction crews were active in the area during this period of time.
Members of the Guelph Police Service will monitor this area and random speed enforcement initiatives can be expected to continue.
