(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Saturday August 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a two vehicle injury collision at the intersection of Hwy 23 and Perth Line 20 south of Mitchell.
Investigation revealed that a Honda Element was travelling north bound on Hwy 23 when it was struck on the passenger side by a Kia sedan. The Kia had been travelling west bound on Perth Line 20 when the driver failed to yield to the Honda which was travelling on the through Highway.
The 52 year old male driver and the 15 year old male passenger of the Honda, both residents of Mount Brydges sustained minor injuries. The 37 year old male driver, the 36 year old female passenger, and a 2 year old male passenger of the Kia , sustained minor injuries. The occupants of the Kia were all Saint Laurent (QC) residents. All five injured were transported to Stratford General Hospital for treatment.
The 37 year old male driver of the Kia was charged with “fail to yield to traffic on through highwayâ€Â. Further investigation indicated that the child seat used for the 2 year old child had not been properly anchored into the seat, which resulted in an additional charge of “driver fail to ensure child passenger occupies seat belt assembly equipped positionâ€Â.
