(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Tuesday July 06, 2010 shortly after 11:00 p.m. the Listowel Fire Dept. and Perth County OPP were dispatched to a fire on the bridge which connects the east and west sides of the North Perth Trail. The bridge crosses the Maitland River behind the Spinrite factory and can be accessed from Victoria Ave. S. and Salisbury Ave. S.
The North Perth Fire Department quickly brought the fire under control but not before substantial damage was caused to the upper section of the bridge. The intense heat of the fire appears to have warped some of the metal rails,
The Perth County OPP continues to investigate this fire, while at the same time the office of the Ontario Fire Marshall has been contacted due to the suspicious nature of the blaze.
“A fire of this kind is disturbing to me, because it damages and destroys some of the great features this town has to offer its residents and visitors. I am hoping the public will call us to report any suspicious activity they observed on or near the bridge on Tuesday evening†said North Perth OPP Constable Paul Landers.
The Perth County OPP can be contacted at 1-888-310-1122 or to remain anonymous you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
