Fatal Motorcycle – Van Collision

(MUNICIPALITY OF CENTRAL HURON, ON) On Friday August 23, 2013 at approximately 9:45 p.m. members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Kinburn Line and Summerhill Road in Kinburn.

Investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Astro van was travelling east bound on Summerhill Road. The van proceeded to cross the intersection of Kinburn Line after having stopped at the stop sign. A fast moving north bound Yamaha motorcycle travelling on Kinburn Line struck the passenger side rear corner of the Astro van. The impact resulted in the motorcycle operator being thrown from his machine.

The motorcycle operator was transported to the Seaforth Community Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as Dean HAYCOCK (22) a Huron East resident. The lone male occupant (driver) of the Astro van was transported to Clinton Public Hospital from where he was transported to the London Victoria Hospital with serious injuries. The van driver has been identified as Carl MERNER (62) a Huron East resident.

To allow for the OPP Western Region Traffic Collision Investigation Unit to safely complete its investigation into this collision, Kinburn Line between Bridge Road and Winthrop Road, as well as Summerhill Road between Burns Line and Division Line are expected to remain closed until approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday August 24, 2013.
