Commercial Vehicle Enforcement

On Monday 26 August, 2013 between the hours of 8:30am and noon, the Guelph Police Traffic Services Unit conducted Commercial Vehicle Enforcement in the Kortright Hills Neighborhood (Downey Road between the Hanlon Expressway and Hanlon Creek Blvd as well as Niska Road).
This area is designated as a Heavy Truck Exclusionary Zone and trucks with a Registered Gross Weight in excess of 4500 kgs are prohibited from the area unless making deliveries or service calls.

Police were monitoring this neighborhood in response to community concerns about excessive heavy truck traffic.
Three heavy trucks were stopped passing through that area contrary to the clearly posted signs. One of those trucks was a Tractor Trailer that was intercepted as it approached the single lane Bailey Bridge on Niska Road. Those drivers were charged with Disobey Sign.
In addition, a roll off container truck was taken out of service for being in an unsafe condition. The driver was charged with four offences related to

Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspection records.
The Ministry of Transportation Commercial Vehicle Enforcement division assisted with the inspection of the unsafe truck.
Guelph Police will continue to monitor commercial vehicle activity in this prohibited area.
