Guelph Police Traffic Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding a collision Thursday evening that left a fifteen year-old male with head injuries.
At approximately 9:20 p.m., Guelph Emergency personnel attended to Woodlawn Road East and Victoria Road North for a report of a cyclist that had been struck.
Upon arrival, the cyclist, a fifteen year-old male from Guelph, was located in the southbound lanes of Victoria Road. A 2003 Volkswagen Jetta which had sustained serious windshield damage was also located in the southbound lanes. Wedged into the front grill of the Jetta was a silver youth’s mountain bicycle.
GWEMS workers determined that the cyclist had sustained a serious head injury and an air ambulance was summoned to the scene.
The driver of the car, a 71 year-old Guelph man was not injured.
At this time investigators are focusing on whether or not the bicycle was within the intersection lawfully, whether or not the cyclist was wearing a helmet, and whether or not the bicycle had a functioning lighting system.
The cyclist was kept at Guelph General Hospital as his condition returned to stable. He remains under doctor care at the time of this release.
Charges in this collision are pending.
