Lock It Or Lose It

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Thursday July 29, 2010, Perth County OPP officers in Listowel were called to ten residences where citizens reported their vehicles entered, rummaged through and in most instances items had been removed from inside the vehicles.

Investigation indicates that most of the thefts are occurring between midnight and 7 a.m. The thefts appear to take place throughout the town and in the majority of the cases the vehicles had been left unlocked. Three vehicles had windows smashed to allow the thief access to the visible valuable contents inside the vehicles.

The items stolen are GPS systems, money, cameras, cell phones, satellite radio’s, Canadian Tire money and numerous other small valuable items.

“I don’t know what it is going to take for people to just lock their cars and place their valuables out of sight” said Constable Bill DeKoning who has been investigating and answering these calls throughout the day. “The word on the street is, if you need quick cash? Just check a few cars because many of them are left unlocked”.

Officers are urging the public to LOCK you cars and take out your valuables or at least place them out of sight. They are also requesting the public to immediately call police if suspicious persons are seen around their own or their neighbour’s vehicles.
