Boat Operator Charged – Not Enough Life Jackets

(LAKE HURON, ON) – On August 14th, 2010, the South Bruce OPP Marine unit was out patrolling the waters of Lake Huron. At 11:23 am, officers from the South Bruce OPP Marine unit were conducting vessel inspections off of the Southampton harbour when a vessel was found lacking in safety equipment. 31 year old Jaret Poff of Essex is charged with Operate pleasure craft with insufficient number of life jackets. The South Bruce OPP Marine unit encourages vessel owners to safely enjoy their day on the water. Leaving the dock without the required safety equipment has too often ended in tragedy. Anyone with questions about safety equipment or basic vessel rules can check the free Transport Canada publication “Safe Boating Guide”, or Transport Canada website at www.tc.gc.ca.
