Brussels Party Ends In Charges – Beer Bottles Thrown At Police

(Huron East, ON) On September 5, 2010 shortly before 11:00 pm, Huron OPP officers were on general patrol in Brussels when they came across a large party on Turnberry Street. The home where the party was being hosted is rented by 5 young males ranging in age from 18 to 19 years. The numbers in attendance were estimated to be approximately 150. The young ages of the partygoers, combined with the courage that comes from drinking alcohol, caused the situation to become an officer safety issue when beer bottles began to be thrown at the cruisers.

Officers maintained a safe distance and set up RIDE programs thus preventing any further attendees from getting into the crowded area. At one point the Huron County Roads were asked to close the roadway due to the foot traffic spilling off the property. After several hours of babysitting and ensuring everyone got a sober ride home, officers advised the five tenants of their pending Mischief charges for which they will all be summonsed. While in the area, officers were advised by several neighbours that the house had been a “party” house all summer. Hopefully the charges will give the message that this irresponsible behaviour will not be tolerated.
