(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) On Sunday September 22, 2013 at approximately 1:28am, officers from the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit (TMU) conducted a R.I.D.E. Program on Highway 6 near College Avenue in the City of Guelph. Officers investigated the driver of a 2006 Honda Civic and upon speaking with the driver; police discovered that he had been drinking alcohol. He was administered a Roadside Screening Device test which resulted in a fail.
Jason ONEILL age 22 of Stroud has been charged with Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on October 18, 2013 to answer to the charge.
Wellington County OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Scott Lawson reminds the public that drinking and driving remains the leading criminal cause of death in Canada. Those charged with a drinking and driving offence are subjected to losing their licence for 90 days and the motor vehicle is impounded for a period of 7 days.
