OPP Fall Seatblet Campaign

(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Fall Seatbelt Campaign begins on September 26 and will run to13 October at midnight. Wellington County OPP will be highly visible throughout the County enforcing seatbelt compliance along with educating the public on proper usage.

Wellington County OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Scott Lawson says “Even though the seatbelt compliance rate in Wellington County is high, there is still room for improvement. The seatbelt is the single most important piece of safety equipment available to occupants of a vehicle that, with a simple click, could be the difference between life or death”.

Every person travelling in a motor vehicle must wear a seatbelt or use a child safety seat. The penalty for not wearing a seatbelt is $240 and two demerit points. Drivers are responsible for ensuring that the passengers under 16 years of age are using the seatbelt or an appropriate child car seat. Children under 13 years of age are safest in the back seat.
