Man Charged with Failing to Stop

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a theft investigation in Chatham.

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. last night, police responded to a theft complaint at a business on St. Clair Street. The officers were provided a physical description of the man. Around 10:30 p.m. officers observed a man riding a bike on Victoria Avenue that matched the description of the man involved in the theft. The officers asked the man to stop, however he made an abrupt turn into a backyard. The officers pursued the man on foot and he was apprehended on Grand Avenue East near Taylor Street.

Through investigation, the officers learned that the man was currently bound by conditions to reside at a specific address in Chatham. Officers confirmed that the man was no longer living at the residence.

The 34-year-old Chatham man has been charged with failing to stop and failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
