Unlocked Truck With Keys and Full Tank Of Gas Stolen

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are investigating the theft of Chevrolet pickup truck stolen from a Winthrop Road residence during the early morning hours on October 23, 2013. The Chevrolet Silverado, valued at nearly $27,000 was stolen from the owner’s laneway on Winthrop Road. The truck was left unlocked, keys in the ignition, tank full of gas – ready to go!

“Clearly the owner of this truck failed to take some simple precautions to prevent the theft of his vehicle. Leaving the keys in the ignition, with the doors unlocked is quite simply an invitation for most thieves. I can’t stress this message enough – Vehicle thefts are largely an opportunistic crime; Do not give the criminal the opportunity. Secure your vehicle when it’s unattended and remove the keys from the ignition. Crime prevention is everyone’s business.” – Huron County OPP Detachment Commander – Inspector Chris Martin.

The stolen pickup is described as a black, 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, with non-factory polished black rims, after-market suspension and an attached toolbox in the rear truck bed.

Any person with information regarding this incident should immediately contact the Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or (519) 524-8314.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
