At approximately 1:00 am this morning the Chatham Kent Police responded to a report of a vehicle leaving the roadway and striking a residence on Chippewa Drive, Chatham. The driver of the involved vehicle fled the scene and was located a short time later by police. The officer determined that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters for further breath tests. Through investigation it was learned that the involved vehicle was stolen earlier in the evening from an address on Edgar Street, Chatham.
A 17 year old Chatham youth was charged with multiple driving offences including impaired driving, failing to remain at an accident as well as theft and possession of stolen property related to the theft of the vehicle. He will appear in court at a later date.
