Stratford Man Caught Doing 132 in an 80

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – On Sunday December 14, 2014, shortly before 11 p.m., an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on patrol along Hwy 7 near St.Marys. The officer observed an eastbound motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

The officer activated the police radar and locked the vehicle in at a speed of 132 km/h. This is 52 km/h above the posted 80 km/h zone. The Toyota Corolla was pulled over by the officer, and the 28 year old male driver, a resident of Stratford was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”. He is to appear at Stratford Court on January 13, 2015, to answer to this charge. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and her car was towed from the scene and has been impounded for a week.

“These three motorists were engaging in high risk driving behaviour which puts everyone at risk. The high speeds these drivers were travelling at, makes it more difficult for them to react to driving situations. At these speeds their vehicles are more difficult to bring to a stop and control. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.” Staff Sergeant Joel Skelding Perth County OPP.
