Fire Leads to Discovery of Marijuana Grow-Operation

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of arrests in the discovery of a marihuana grow-operation revealed during a fire investigation.

On Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at approximately 4:30 a.m., members of the Toronto Police Service and the Toronto Fire Services responded to a call for a fire at 2575 Danforth Avenue.

A fire was discovered within one of the apartments in this building. The fire, which was contained to one unit, was extinguished.

It is alleged that:

– the apartment was used as a marihuana producing operation (grow-op)

– the fire ignited during the production of marihuana

– attempts by the tenants to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful

– the tenants fled the apartment

– officers seized a number of potted marihuana plants, in various stages of growth, as well as the equipment used to produce the marihuana.

Milovan Solunac, 22, and Nigel Thompson, 22, both of Toronto were charged with the following:

1) Mischief Endangering Life
2) Arson Having Disregard for Human Life
3) Produce Schedule II Substance
4) Possess Schedule II Substance

Both men appeared in court at College Park on Thursday, December 18, 2014.
