(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – On Saturday December 20, 2014, shortly after 8 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
Investigation revealed that a pedestrian was walking south bound on Nelson Street on the west side of the roadway just south of Huron Road. (Hwy. 8). A Cadillac sedan travelling west bound on Huron Road turned south onto Nelson street where it collided with the pedestrian who subsequently struck the roadway. The 52 year old pedestrian, a female resident of the Municipality of West Perth was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The car did not sustain damage as a result of the impact. The 65 year old female driver, a Municipality of West Perth resident has been charged with “fail to yield right of way to pedestrianâ€, in contravention to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
There are no sidewalks along Nelson Street where this collision occurred. Motorists are urged to pay special attention to pedestrians who may sometimes be forced to walk on roadways and along town streets due to lack of sidewalks .
