Some have asked me why I mention car / deer collisions in my press releases. One is simply a reminder that in this area at night it is wise to drive the speed limit and always scan the ditches. If you see a deer slow down, it usually is not the first deer you see that you hit it is the second or third deer. The second is to give an idea to drivers where the problem areas are for car / deer collisions.
3:57 pm police responded to the MTO licence office downtown Port Elgin to a report of a person yelling at the staff. This office was not able to do what the patron required them to do and was referred to a Service Ontario office. No amount of yelling at staff was going to get them to do what they don’t do. What was achieved by the male was he received a trespass notice.

Drivers are reminded that when we receive a dose of winter like the week of the 5th of January it is best to stay off the roads. It is easy to say and hard to do but when the visibility is as poor as it was last week, and the snow was as deep as it was, stay home. Unless it is an emergency, ride it out and don’t create an emergency on the roads. It is simply too unsafe if you don’t have to travel. As an added plus, my officers, fire, ambulance and tow truck drivers don’t have to go out on roads when it is dangerous to do so. Drive safe.
