Two Vehicle Collision Sends Two To Hospital

Shortly after 7:00am a 5 ton delivery truck was travelling southbound on 9th Avenue East. A black SUV travelling eastbound on 10th Street collided with the delivery truck in the intersection. The collision caused the delivery truck to careen into the center media and strike a traffic light post.

The Owen Sound Police Service, Owen Sound Fire Services and Paramedics immediately responded to the intersection with reports of injuries. The lone drivers of the two vehicles were transported to hospital by Paramedics.

Power to the traffic lights had to be shut off because of the initial electrocution hazard from the damaged traffic light pole. Power at the intersection remained off for over 3.5 hours as repairs to the damaged traffic light pole were completed. Police were required to direct traffic at this busy intersection during this time period.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and had to be towed from the intersection.

The investigation determined that driver of the black SUV had failed to stop for a red light at the intersection. A 37 year old Georgian Bluffs man has been charged with Red Light – Fail to Stop under the Highway Traffic Act.

Both drivers were assessed at hospital. Both sustained minor injuries and are expected to be released.
