Daily News Release – Thursday, January 15, 2015

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 97 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested.

Man Arrested from CKPS Wanted List CK15001293

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man on outstanding warrants.

On October 21, 2014, the man entered Shopper’s Drug Mart on Queen Street in Chatham. The man concealed a pack of sour Skittles and exited the store making no attempt to pay for the candy. Police were called and the man was arrested. The man was charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released pending a future court date. Through investigation, police learned that the man had falsely identified himself and a warrant was issued for his arrest for obstruct police.

On October 28, 2014, the man attended the Petro Canada on Grand Avenue West in Chatham and stole two lottery tickets valued at $20 each. Attempts were made to locate the man, however when unsuccessful, a warrant was issued for his arrest for the offences of theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.

Around 3:15 a.m. this morning, officers located the man on Queens Line and he was taken in to custody.

Joel Davis, 25 years, of Clemenceau Boulevard in Windsor has been released with conditions pending a future court date of January 30, 2015.

Three People Charged with Drug Possession CK15001215

Yesterday afternoon, members of the Intelligence Section observed a suspicious vehicle on Wellington Street in Chatham. The driver pulled in to the Nortown Plaza and parked in front of a local business. Officers approached the vehicle to investigate.

Through investigation, all three occupants were arrested for drug related offences as they were found to be in possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl and cannabis resin.

A 46-year-old Chatham man was charged with two counts of drug possession.

A 23-year-old Dover Township man was charged with drug possession and failing to comply with release conditions.

A 21-year-old Dover Township woman was charged with three counts of drug possession and four counts of failing to comply with release conditions.

All three have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Industrial Accident CK15001204

Yesterday morning, emergency crews responded to an industrial accident at Tatro Trucking on Seventh Line West in Chatham.

An employee from a heating and cooling company contracted to do repairs fell approximately 3 feet from the bucket of a lift truck. The 43-year-old Chatham man was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance via ambulance for medical attention of non-life threatening injuries.

The Ministry of Labour was contacted and has taken over the investigation.
