Car Vs Horse And Buggy – Three Sent To Hospital

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Saturday January 24, 2014, shortly before 11 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a collision involving a car and a horse drawn buggy along Perth Road 131 north of Milverton.

Investigation revealed that a horse and buggy was travelling south bound on Perth Road 131 when it crossed the centre line and entered into the path of the north bound car. The horse collided with the car, causing the horse to land on the windshield and roof of the car. The car, a Hyundai Elantra was extensively damaged as a result of the impact. The buggy was not directly impacted by the collision and therefore sustained only minor damage.

The lone male driver of the buggy, a 27 year old male resident of the Township of Perth East was transported to local hospital with minor injuries. The 71 year old male driver of the car, a Stratford resident, and his 69 year old male passenger, a Keppel Township resident, were also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The horse was able to be walked away from the scene to a nearby farm where its cuts and bruises were to be attended to by a veterinary. The driver of the buggy has been charged with; “fail to share half roadway – meeting vehicle” contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
