(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – This weekend three drivers found out that exceeding the speed limit by over 50 km/h has serious consequences.
On Friday April 10, 2015 shortly after 9 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting patrols along Perth Road 119 in the Hamlet of Brunner, when a fast moving east bound vehicle was observed. The officer activated the police radar and locked in the vehicle’s speed in excess of 50 km/h above the posted 60 km/h speed limit. James BOVOLOTTO (32) of Mississauga was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”, and “Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit”.
On Saturday April 11, 2015 around 8 p.m., a Perth County OPP officer observed a fast moving southbound vehicle on Perth Road 119 north of Gads Hill. The officer determined that the speed of the car was in excess of 50 km/h above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. Jessica TRAYNOR (33) of Stratford was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”.
On Sunday April 12, 2015 around 10:30 a.m., a Perth County OPP officer observed a fast moving eastbound vehicle on Perth Line 56 near Nithburg. The officer determined that the speed of the car was in excess of 50 km/h above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. Matthew BROWNING (21) of Wellesley Twp. was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”, and “Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit”.
All three drivers will be appearing at Stratford Court sometime in May 2015, to answer to the charges. Each driver had their drivers licence seized and suspended for seven days. In addition, the vehicles they were driving were towed from the scene and have been impounded for a week.
The Perth County OPP wants to remind motorists that drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it difficult for drivers to react to sudden changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision, and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.
