Man Charged with Escape Lawful Custody CK15010951
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a domestic related investigation.
On March 16, 2015 the man was released from custody with several conditions. Two of those conditions stated that he was not to communicate with a specific Chatham woman or be within 200 metres of her residence.
Yesterday morning, police responded to the woman’s residence in regards to a disturbance. The man was located in the residence and upon being advised of his arrest he fled and ran out the front door.
Shortly after 5:00 p.m. police re-attended the woman’s residence for an unrelated matter and located the man hiding in a bedroom closet.
The 41-year-old Chatham man has been charged with escape lawful custody and two counts of failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Youth Faces Multiple Charges CK15011188
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a youth following an incident in Merlin last night.
In January 2015, the youth was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. unless with a parent.
Last night around 10:20 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle doing ‘donuts’ behind Merlin Public School. As the officer entered the school yard, the youth accelerated and drove away. The officer activated his roof lights and observed the youth roll through a four-way stop. The youth finally pulled over on Aberdeen Street.
The 17-year-old Merlin youth has been charged with driving a motor vehicle with no licence, driving a motor vehicle with no insurance, failing to comply and mischief under $5000. He was released to a parent with conditions pending a future court date.
Damage to the grass in the school yard has been estimated at $1000.
Home Improvements
Last weekend, an elderly couple from Dover Township may have been the victims of a Home Improvement Scam.
Four young men from a paving company attended their home and offered to pave their driveway. The couple paid the men $3000 for their services. The men did a poor job and did not return to correct their work.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind homeowners to ensure the work actually needs to be done before agreeing to a deal. Do not feel pressured to accept their offer. In most cases, if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
