(NORTH HURON, ON) – A 26 year old female is currently behind bars after she was caught lying to police. At approximately 2:18 a.m. on April 24, 2015 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a Dodge pickup truck pulling a small utility trailer on Belgrave Road near Currie Line. Officers noticed the taillights on the trailer were not functioning properly so the pickup truck was stopped.
The driver provided photo identification for himself whereas the female passenger initially identified herself verbally. The investigating officer became suspicious of the name provided so he asked for supporting identification. The female passenger then provided a photo driver’s licence in the same name. Little did the passenger know, but the female she identified herself as was known to the investigating officer.
After catching her in a lie the officer placed her under arrest for Personation to Avoid Arrest. She later admitted her real name to the officer. Subsequent checks revealed she was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants.
As a result, 32 year old Shannon HUNTER from Selwyn Township has been charged with Personation to Avoid Arrest and two counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance. She remains in custody on these charges and her outstanding charges. She has a video court appearance scheduled for May 12, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
