Evelyn MERTZ – Drunk Driving On London Road

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A quick call to police has led to the arrest of another driver that had too much alcohol in her system. On May 9, 2015 at 7:22 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received information from a concerned citizen about a possible impaired driver that was seen driving around Vanastra.

OPP officers immediately began patrolling for the suspect vehicle, a GMC Sierra pickup truck. Approximately 20 minutes later an OPP officer spotted the vehicle on London Road north of Brucefield.

Upon stopping the vehicle and speaking with the female driver, the investigating officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. She was placed under arrest and was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. She subsequently provided two samples of her breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 54 year old Evelyn MERTZ from Huron East has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. She has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 22, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. She was also served with an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension.

A 46 year old male passenger from Bluewater was ticketed with Having an Open Container of Alcohol inside the Vehicle.
