The Chatham-Kent Police responded to 103 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.

Man Charged with Impaired Driving in Wheatley

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man for impaired driving in Wheatley yesterday morning.

Around 6:45 am, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision near the Wheatley harbour. Upon police arrival, the driver was identified and suffered no injuries as a result of the collision. Through investigation, the officer believed that the driver had consumed alcohol and administered a roadside screening test. The driver failed the test and was arrested. The man was transported to police headquarters for further breath tests.

Shea THOMAS (11-Oct-93) of Moore Street in Wheatley has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He has been released with conditions pending a future court date of May 29, 2015.

Man Arrested for Shoplifting

On Saturday, May, 16, 2015 at approximately 10:15 am, a man entered the Shopper’s Drug Mart in Wallaceburg and stole an electric toothbrush. Employees called police as the man ran out of the store. An officer on general patrol observed the man a short distance away and attempted to arrest him. The man was not compliant and actively resisted the officer. However, control was quickly gained and the man was handcuffed.

A 21-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with Theft Under $5000 and Possession under $5000. He was released with conditions pending a future court date.

Break and Enter in Chatham

Sometime between 10:00am and 11:30am yesterday morning, unknown suspects entered a house on Primrose Lane in Chatham removing a purse containing various ID and credit cards.

Motor Vehicle Collision

Police were called to Dawn Mills Road early this morning after a report of a motor vehicle collision. A 47-year-old Chatham man was driving his vehicle when he lost control and drove into the ditch. Damage was estimated at $10,000 and the man was charged with Careless Driving. Fortunately, the man did not suffer any injuries.

R.I.D.E. checks conducted in Chatham-Kent

Chatham-Kent police were busy overnight checking the sobriety of drivers. Approximately 110 vehicles were stopped at R.I.D.E. checkpoints in Blenheim and Tilbury. No charges were laid. Police would like to thank those that drive responsibly and remind those who choose to drink and drive that the consequences are not worth it.
