19 Year Old Drunk Driver Caught At RIDE

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A young driver from Bluewater will be heading to court after he was caught driving with more than 80 Milligrams of Alcohol last week. On May 18, 2015 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program on Bannockburn Line at Pavillion Road after receiving complaints from area residents of possible impaired drivers leaving a large field party on Bannockburn Line.

Officers set up a R.I.D.E program at the intersection of Bannockburn Line and Pavillion Road and at 12:53 a.m. a Chevrolet Silverado entered the checkpoint. Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 19 year old Gregory HEYINK from Huron East has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and Young Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Above Zero. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on June 22, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
