(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid an Impaired Driving by Drug charge against a 32 year old male following a traffic stop on May 25, 2015. At 5:21 p.m. Huron OPP officers received a call from a concerned motorist about a suspected impaired driver that was last seen driving in an erratic manner northbound on London Road through the village of Blyth.
An OPP officer was able to locate the suspect a few kilometres south of Wingham on London Road. The suspect driver was observed driving in an erratic manner crossing into oncoming traffic nearly causing a collision. The officer was able to safely stop the suspect vehicle at the intersection of London Road and Jamestown Road.
Upon speaking with the driver, the investigating officer observed several signs that the driver was impaired by drug. The driver was promptly arrested for Impaired Driving and was given a demand to submit to a Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE).
The driver was transported to the Teviotdale OPP Detachment in Wellington County where an evaluation on the driver’s impairment was completed by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). The evaluation was completed and it was deemed the driver’s ability to drive a motor vehicle was impaired by drug.
As a result, Peter DIXON, 32 years of age from Wingham has been charged with Impaired Driving & Dangerous Driving. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for July 16, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham.
