Chatham-Kent Police Daily News Release – June 4, 2015

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 121 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Four people were arrested.

Man Charged with Child Pornography Offences CK15015515

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following the execution of a search warrant in Chatham.

In March 2015, the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was not to possess or access any electronic devices capable of accessing the internet unless for employment purposes during work hours.

In May 2015, the Internet Child Exploitation unit became involved in an investigation surrounding the man again.

Last night, the man was taken into custody as he left his workplace. A laptop was seized from his place of employment. Officers then executed a search warrant at the man’s home and a computer was seized for forensic analysis. The 27-year-old Chatham man has been charged with possessing child pornography, accessing child pornography and two counts of failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences CK15016025

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a domestic related incident.

Yesterday, the man and his girlfriend began arguing while at a friend’s house. The man used the woman’s cell phone and refused to return it to her. As the couple left the apartment in her vehicle, the man threatened her. The man jumped out of the vehicle when the woman advised she was driving to police headquarters.

Officers located the man and he was taken into custody. The 25-year-old Chatham man has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and two counts of uttering threats. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Theft CK15016127

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a shoplifting complaint in Wallaceburg.

Last night, the man attended Shopper’s Drug Mart and removed a pair of Ecko earbuds from the packaging. He concealed the earbuds in his pants. An employee confronted the man and called police.

Kevin Ebert, 25 years, of River Road on Walpole Island has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of July 7, 2015.

Man Charged with Stunt Driving

Shortly after 7:00 a.m. this morning, an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Talbot Trail near Erieau Road when he observed a black BMW travelling westbound at a high rate of speed. The officer recorded the vehicle travelling 119 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr zone. The driver then passed an oncoming school bus with its lights flashing and stop bar out as an elementary aged child was boarding.

A 35-year-ol Chatham man has been charged with stunt driving and failing to stop for a school bus. His vehicle has been impounded for 7 days and his driver’s licence has been seized for 7 days.

Traffic Enforcement CK15016101

Yesterday afternoon, members of the Traffic Unit conduced traffic enforcement on Longwoods Road.

Eighteen motorists were stopped and issued speeding tickets.
