(HURON EAST, ON) – A burnt out headlight was the reason for the stop however the end result was the driver was arrested and charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. On Sunday, June 7, 2015 at approximately 11:42 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) spotted a Ford Freestar travelling northbound on Brussels Line at Amberley Road. The officers noticed one of the rear taillights was not working so they proceeded to stop the driver to speak to him about the equipment violation.
Upon speaking with the male driver it was noted the driver had been consuming alcohol. A roadside screening test was performed which the driver failed. The driver was placed under arrest for Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was transported to the Listowel OPP Detachment for breath tests. The driver provided two suitable breath samples to the Intoxilizer Technician and they were both over the legal limit.
As a result, 45 year old Dean NICHOLSON from North Huron has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on July 6, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
